trouble engaging 1st gear smoothly
trouble engaging 1st gear smoothly
I have an 1990 f-150 supercab with a manual 5 speed overdrive tranny that i started driving just a few weeks ago...i had only driven a standard car before so going to the truck took some adjusting in terms of shifting smoothly, but i've got it pretty good now...only problem is that no matter what I try, i find that starting in 1st is still i little rough...i always find that as i start to engage it kinda lugs just a little before it fully engages...i just assumed this was me as i was getting used to the truck...it's not a bid deal as it's not that noticeable (it's not jerking or lugging that much - just enough that i notice) but as i've been driving for a few weeks now and have tried and practised to get it just right nothing's changed...is it at all normal for it to do this while engaging? like i said i've been practising to the point where i can get it pretty good but it's still not as smooth as in a car or as smooth as i engage the other gears...any ideas? it might still be me but i've tried everything...thanks for the help!
