2000 truck wont shift
2000 truck wont shift
i have a problem that would push me into trading my truck if i cant fix it. i drive a 2000 supercab 4.2 liter 5 speed. i bought the truck new in that year. since about 1000 miles, i noticed that when i am at a traffic light, and i place the truck in neutral, when the light turns green i floor the clutch and attempt to put in 1st. it doesnt work. after pumping the clutch a few times and forcefully pushing it in, it pops and there i go. ford apparenty replaced something in it and it still does it. lately i cant get it into any gears unless i push the truck forward a few inches, or i let it roll a little. needless to say my left leg is bigger than my right since i keep my clutch down to avoid the above happening.
any advice would help me a great deal. i love my truck.
thanks in advance

It is most likely the slave cylinder inside the tranny. It may be leaking. You could try and bleed the clutch to allow any water etc.. to escape and try that. These trannies leave allot to be desired. I have had mine 6.5 years and have not had any problems with it but man it takes work to shift these looong throw POS.
thanks for the reply. does that mean i have to have the tranny lowered and replace the cylinder? how expensive can that be? where do i find the bleeder valve to bleed the clutch.? a friend told me my fluid was low and topped it off with break fluid. is this right?
thanks again
thanks again
It's your lucky day. I have an easy fix. By the way I had exactly the same problem with my truck. Change your tranny fluid with synthetic ATF. I bought mine at Walmart, very cheap. When I did this it didn't seem to work at first but after a week it works perfectly. Let me know how it goes.
