what fluid should i use?

what fluid should i use?

i have a 03 fx4 supercrew with 5.4 and the 4r70w what mercon 5 should i use and is there any frictoin mod or trick shift that would make it shift firmer i have a hyperteck and have it set for firmer shifts but it didnt help all that much so what do you all recomend and what is the results?

For a routine service, any Mercon V will be fine. If you don't mind paying for synthetic, you can order Amsoil or Redline. They are both top notch products. If you want a kick in the pants shift, you need to install a complete valve body or install a shift kit in your current one. Factory Tech is a great drop-in valve body and Transgo is a good shift kit to modify your valve body.

wich one would you recomend the valve body or shift kit? how much do you think for those? thanks for the help

You're Welcome ! With either one, you have to remove the valve body. With the shift kit, you have to disassemble the valve body, install a few springs and valves, and drill a few holes. You also get to pick from several levels of firmness. It's also nice to have your original valve body. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, the pre-modified valve body is much less involved. All the work is done and you just slap it in. It is modified by a top-notch professional. Ultimately, they both accomplish the same thing and work the same. thanks alot max for the info, i think i will get the shift kit and do it my self i didnt think they were that cheap

is the transgo at troyer performance the best one? or is there a better shift kit out there? do you know if i set the valve body up for one level of firmness can i go back and set it up for firmer or is it a one shot deal?

I put the Baumann Engineering shift kit in my 2000 4R70W. I was very impressed with the results and I've put many shift kits in. A bunch of people here used the BE and the Transgo. Later, most recommended the Transgo because it had an additional safety relief for high pressures. You can buy the Transgo at many other places as well. When setting it up for different levels, if you do the firmest in the beginning, you will drill larger holes than the other settings. This is why some recommend starting out softer. I like hard shifts, so, I never use the softer settings. For example, the BE kit had 5 levels and I used level 4 (next to hardest). If there were 3 levels, I would start at level 2. If you search "Transgo" here in the trans area, you'll find alot of information quickly from those that varied settings. Another thing to consider is that aftermarket chips can also affect shift firmness. I also had a standard Superchip on top of the shift kit. Even the part throttle shifts were VERY firm, which I liked. I don't know how hard of shifts you like or if you may get sick of them. The middle ground would be best for most.
