E40D leak

Blast from the past!

I noticed this post from 1999 which describes my situation well. I own a 1997 F250 4x4 Supercab with 66K miles. I have transmission fluid leaking out of the black grommet on the flywheel inspection cover. This began following transmission service by a Ford dealership. The leak varies from one drop to a small pool the size of a half dollar each day.

Following the transmission service, I proceeded to haul four heavy twin axle trailer loads 250 miles with empty backhauls. The truck performed well and continues to perform well.

Checking the transmission fluid cold on a level surface indicates that the transmission was overfilled when serviced. I have not added any transmission fluid and have been monitoring the level.

Do I have a problem? Do I need to wait this out until the transmission leaks to the appropriate level?

Here is the link to the 1999 post. Thanks in advance for your qualified feedback!

If it was following a transmission service, you should check to see that the torque converter drain plug is properly installed. Otherwise, it sounds like the front seal on the transmission.
