transmission fluid

I have a 2000 f 250 super duty and it calls for micron trans fluid on dip stick. My local ford service tech says that I can use micron or micron v either one will work. Everything that I have read says that you have to use one or the other . can anyone enlighten me on this. Also there is a drain plug in the pan and I drained out 5 quarts of fluid put 4 quarts back in and is shows full ask him about this and he said to only put 4 quarts in go by what the fill stick reads. Does anyone know what the transmission pan holds on a 2000 f 250 super duty.Is the dipstick accurate or should I put back in what I removed

ONLY use what your dipstick and owner's manual recommends. How accurately did you measure the drained fluid? Just check the fluid at operating temperature by the dipstick and you'll be fine.

Mercon V is a semi-synthetic fluid. I would use what the dipstick says. Mercon V is usually recommended for the4R70W because the torque converter shudder occurs more frequently on these transmissions becsause they tend to run hotter. The heat causes the Mercon to break down and the shudder occurs. Why didn't you drain the converter?

I bought the truck about a year ago and it is a 2000 less than 50,000 mi. I change my own oil and do what maintenance I can. When I got the truck it has a drain plug in the transmission pan where the sump is located it looks like the factory did it but not sure. My thinking was that i would start changing the fluid that was in the pan every other oil change and that way I would have fairly good fluid at all times. I don't know if the converter has a drain plug or not . My 1997 did and I change it and put in ams oil synthetic worked great until I traded. It look like I am going to have to drain the converter and pan to determine how much oil shows on the dip stick when the proper amount is installed since on this last occasion I drained out five quarts and replaced four and the dip stick shows full I check this by pouring the drained oil back into the quart bottles and when I fill the four bottles I still had a good quart left . I got a empty quart oil bottle and filled it with some left over. I drives and shifts fine but I need to know if I was running with a quart to much for over a year or am I running with a quart less now.
