Transmission screwed???

Had my 2001 f150 towed yesterday...when I got back in the truck I noticed that it was in 4 wheel high. The truck was towed from the rear wheels. The truck now will not shift and if I leave it in D it will slip like its in nuetral after about 30 seconds. I can drive it in 2. I was told by a friend that the transfer case should have been put in nuetral...and that my trans is probably burnt...just want some other opinions...thanks in advance.

Truck transfer case should have been in netural always when towing ALWAYS!!. If it was in 4x4 high then they overheated something (tranny) and it is now junk. I would hold them responsible and next time be sure they have a flat bed and nothing less. good luck and let us know what happens.

Last December, after a bad meeting with a dummy in a Saturn, my 96 F150 4X4 needed a tow.

being that it has the stupid push button Xfer case, Neutral wasn't an option.

The wrecker driver put the transmission in neutral, left the xfer case in 2WD, and started the truck before towing it from the front.

I'd never thought of that, but starting the engine runs the transmission's pump, keeping fluid flowing, and protecting from burning the transmission.

I've noticed no change in the transmission's funtion since getting the truck back.
