Manual Trannie
Manual Trannie
I'll try to make a long story short......
While driving home from montreal to toronto on victoria day my transmission decide to give out (5-speed). I was doing about 110-120 KMH in fifth (60ish MPH) just 'coasting' or mainting the speed. At first the clutch pedal was hard as a rock, then it got soft and i couldnt put it into first but the others were ok. BLAH BLAH BLAH ford rips apart the transmission and finds that the clutch shattered because while travelling in fifth, first gear tried to lock-up and 'welded' itself to the shaft. There are supposedly a few other things that broke as well but that is more than understandable.
Anyways, i dont know what i should do. According to ford they dont make these transmissions anymore so i dont think i will be able to get a new one unless anyone knows about any. Junk yards supposedly have a scarce supply and who knows their actual condition, or there is a rebuild for 3500ish (CAD$).
Im not that happy about the situation as a whole, but, i dont have that many options. Im not gonna sell the truck thats for sure, it needs to get fixed. Personally i would lean towards a rebuild because then i should be gauranteed safety for a while.
The truck has just over 160,000 KM (100, 000 MI). Any suggestions would be of help.
** The rebuild is not going to be done by ford, but it will be thru ford, they are taking it to specialists shops. We also have an excellent relationship with our dealer so i dont think he is screwing up or gougin us, but i do intend on visiting both my transmission and the shop that gets it regularlily if i go the rebuilt route.
