Tranny Question
Tranny Question
Ive got a 94 ford club wagon. I bought a code reader cuz the tranny shop I took my van to told me that I have an electrical problem not a tranny problem and I receive codes
632-Overdrive transmission cancel switch/no action during self engine run test
628-Excessive converter clutch slippage
It downshifts very hard and when I put it into reverse and drive there is a hard clunk but I can drive in 2nd with no problems.
After the tranny shop did theyre test they cleared the codes and it ran fine for 2 days.
Can anyone tell me if these codes are serious enough to warrant switching out the tranny? Thanks

I wouldn't change it yet.
The 632 code means either you didn't press the OD off button while running the self test, or the switch or wiring is bad. Changing the transmission won't help this code at all.
The second code means something in the transmission is slipping. It almost always is the torque converter.
The first thing to try is to change the transmission fluid. Find a place that connects to the cooler lines and changes all the fluid. Just changing the fluid in the pan gets less than half of the total. Old fluid can make the torque converter clutch slip. It also could be a bad torque converter clutch, which means a new torque converter.

Well had the Tranny fluid changed and I have same exact problem. The guys at ( forgive me, lol ) EZ lube said that the pressure tranny change machine gets all the fluid out even from the Torque converter but I am suspicious, Does it?
also the tranny dosnt feel like a slip it just feels like a slamming into gear only when it downshifts and when I am at a stop and shift into reverse or OD.

Does it get the fluid from the Torque converter? Should I drop the pan and drain the converter. They showed me the old fluid and said it was not in bad condition at all. It just dosnt seem to me that this is a tranny problem.

Thanks, All day today my van ran great, no clunking when I put into reverse or when it downshifts like it usually does.
This sounds strange but Ive noticed a pattern of it not doing it unless the Engine temperature rises to a certain level. ??
