Transmission Pan
Transmission Pan
Has anyone experienced a significant drop in transmission oil temperature after installing one of the aftermarket pans? They all seem to hold additional fluid, but with little difference in the surface area exposed to the air, I'm skeptical about the claims of improved cooling. If nothing else, though, it would be nice to have a drain plug. I have '98 F-150 (4R70W) used to tow a 2000 lb. boat during the summer.
Aluminum transfers heat much better than steel so it is not entirely a surface area issue. I put my hand on the bottom of my Mag-Hytec pan after a couple hundred miles but can not hold it there very long because it is hotter than my hand can stand. It also has more surface area than my old pan because I have the deep pan. It holds at least 3 more quarts than the old pan did. I have been very happy with the Mag-Hytec transmission pan.
