2001 4x4 Screw auto won't go into gear
2001 4x4 Screw auto won't go into gear
A couple of times over the last few weeks, after starting up, the tranny will not go into gear. After restarting, I was then able to get it to engage. Could maybe there be a problem with the brake interlock or linkage. Once it gets going, everything shifts fine.
Thanks for the help.

if you run a search here you can find lots of info on the brake pressure sensor shorting out its the one on the master cylinder.
and yes most likely its your shift interlock acting up. next time it does it see if your brake lights come on.

Ok, most of those in the search have a problem getting the shift lever out of park, on mine, I can move the shifter, just none of the gears engage. I still suspect the interlock circuit. The last time it happened, it seemed to fix it when I had the brake pedal mashed to the floor when starting.

Sounds more to me like a linkage problem, like you said, the MLPS shorting will make it so you can't move the shift quadrant. I'd check the cable to the linkage and if that doens't fix it, youmay want ot drop the pan and see if the roll pin htat holds the manual lever in the case has worked out or is missing, and if the nut on the end of the manual lever is tight. You may want to have a dealer do this, and it may be dangerous so I'd get it looked at pretty quick, if the nut has come of the manual lever, it could drop ouot of gear in motion and that could be bad.
Hope this helps,
