Transmission Shudder?

I have read several posts about transmission shudder and am wondering if that is what my problem is. I have a 1999 4.6 L that seem s to shake when starting up an incline. This usually happens on the highway in overdrive, but can also happen at slower speeds. I am assuming it's a torque converter problem but have limited experience. Any ideas?

Thanks

Could be, but then worn plugs, bad coil, dirty gas filter could also cause the same symptoms.

I had a shudder in a Continental that I used to own before Ford bought it back as a lemon. After tune up that dealer required before trying to diagnose a 'driveability" problem, and after balancing tires (per Dealer), they finally located a bad modulator valve. Fixed and ran fine til next problem.

Transmission Fluid. I've seen this topic on other sites and I was having the same problem. I drained the ATF from the transmission ATF pan and the torque converter. Put in a new filter. Replaced 15 qts of Mobil 1 ATF, no more shudder. The shudder is a sympton of bad fluid.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try the fluid and filter change first. I have put about 20k on it since I bought it (90k now). Probably needs to be changed regardless.

Thanks!
