which clutch to buy

for those of you who own the infamous 97 model f150 and all others. I have a 5-speed 4.2L that has 110,000 miles. Im sure i need a new clutch and would like to get a more heavy duty clutch for towing. My question is what kind? centerforce, daiken, etc. any help would be appreciated.

I just put a Centerforce Dual Friction in mine.

Why do you think you need a new clutch? If it's working I wouldn't replace it.

I guess there are a few things to consider. What do you use the truck for. Is the motor at stock power levels. The OE clutch really isn't all that bad for "normal" use. If your truck gets "normal" use I would think that you would be all right with a cheaper, or mid priced set up. If you spend the money for a higher end set up it might be way overkill.

I went with the Dual Friction, which is overkill. The OE clutch started slipping with less than 50k on the clock. I've also installed a supercharger which has increased the torque. I went overkill so that I wont have to do the clutch again for a while. The Dual Friction (I believe) is good for 800lb. ft. I think I'm close to half that. It's not going to slip though! The rear gears are probably the next to go, but then I like being broke.

So, I guess I'm not much help. All I can really tell you is that a new clutch fees so much better than an old, slipping one!

Good luck!

wittom,

how much did you pay for your centerforce DF and install? I was quoted somewhere between $1000-$1100 a few months back. I don't need it. but it's soft and I would need something a lot more Heavy duty since i'm running 35s with the 4.2L and towing toys (quads and seadoos)

I think I paid three sixy five for the clutch disk/pressure plate assembly. I also replaced the clutch slave cylinder, about eighty. I had it installed for three twenty five, but that was my girls brother. It shouldn't be too much more if you don't have a mechanic in the family.

The new clutch hold great but now the rear end is suffering the brunt of the torque. It never ends!

If you pick up the parts yourself you can avoid some mark ups. THe hard part then is finding some one who will install your parts.
