1994 E40D harsh shifts

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you have heard of this problem. The truck is a '94 F150 XLT 302 with a E40D. It's got quite a few miles on it, 175K. The problem that I am having is a hard shifts from 2nd to 3rd. If I really step on it, it seems to work just fine, but when I am just driving normally, it is really harsh. It seems to kind of hang in second for a little longer than it should, then when it finally shifts, it is brutal. From reading the other threads, the only ideas that I have is a faulty TPS, or a bad 2-3 accumulator spring/piston. Are these things easy to check, or possible at all without disassembly? All the other gears and overdrive work flawlessly.

Another problem(perhaps related) is a hard shift from park/neutral/drive into reverse, but only when it is warmed up.

Driving me nuts, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Broken spring in the upper circuit of the accumulator, I'd guess, not too uncommon. If you want to just rebuild the accumulator, it's litterally 50 cents worth of parts to replace the actual part broken, but knowing how to do it is something else. Shoot me an address and I'll send you an accumulator to try and if it works you can just send me the one that's broken back, I rebuild them and it's no big deal to me. I'll include some instructions for my aftermarket part that are exactly the same to change. (the Factory Tech Accumulator). That way you can swap it out and if it works great, if it doesn't we can start l;ooking for things that are harder to fix.
