OD light flashing

I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew with 27,000 miles on it. Up till now I have been very happy with it. Recently the OD light started flashing at low speeds. When I am on the highway the light goes off and it goes into overdrive just fine. The transmission was not experiencing any symptoms. I took it to the dealer and they opened the cover to look at the sensor. They said there was a lot of metal shavings in the transmission and that the light meant the transmission was overheating. They want to replace the transmission. Does this sound logical?

Hey msowers

Did they tell you what code or codes were set to cause the light to flash? Lots of metal in the bottom of the trans pan is never good, but is it alot or is it just fuzz stuck to the magnet? Did they show you what was in the pan? Was the fluid all burnt and dark, usually an overheated trans discolors the fluid quick.

Do you have any warranty remaining?

Xplorer...

hate to get off topic, but on 9-21-03 you posted part of TSB 01-09-03 relating to the extension housing seal coming loose...

Could you tell me where to find that entire TSB? This is exactly what happened to my truck a few days ago and I need some hard evidence to show my dad

Thanks
