What trans in a 03 F150 4x2 5.4l ?

I just bought a new 03 F150 4x2 with the 5.4 and the auto trans. What trans is this or how can I tell? I have seen alot of different model numbers on here that Ford has used and wondering how to tell what exactly I have. Curious as to problems to lookk out for, when to do first fluid change etc as well. Thanks.

It's a 4R70W. There are A LOT of posts here about this transmission.

casey_1 is only half right. If you have the 50-state model (like mine for California) you have the bulletproof 4R100 (which I think they use in the light duty 3/4 ton). To meet the emissions standard this is used. The 4R70W can handle up to 500 lb-ft of torque whereas the 4R100 can handle up to 1000 lb-ft

Look on the door jam, for the transmission code.

E = 4R100
U = 4R70W

ALL 4.2L trucks use the 4R70W. The 4R70W can handle 700 lb-ft, while the 4R100 can handle 1000 lb-ft. That's what the numbers mean in the name. 70 means 700 lb-ft, and 100 means 1000 lb-ft.
