Please help diagnose this problem.

For the last month or so I have been experiencing a jerking or "shudder". This problem seems to be worse if I am traveling 40 to 45 mph going uphill in overdrive. Sometimes it jerks when leaving my driveway in 1st (uphill). I have not noticed any problems in 2nd or 3rd. I first thought I got some "bad" gas that was causing the engine to buck and the "service engine light". After a couple of tanks of "good" gas the light went out and has been out for several weeks but the problem has remained. I am wondering if this is something else. Please Help!! I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew XLT 4X4, 5.4 with a superchip. Thanks in advance.

Well I'm going through the same problem, I thought it was bad gas at first but after a few weeks the problem hasn't gone away. I'm now thinking it could be the torque converter but I'm still not positive. A friend told me it might be a coil pack starting to go bad. My problem seems to happen after the Expedition warms up but when it's cold it seems to drive fine.

If you do a search on transmission shudder you will get more information then you can stand. There is definitely something going on with the 4R70W.
The first thing to do is change the transmission fluid. I recommend you use a full synthetic or at least a blend. This did not fix my shudder and I replaced some valves in the valve body with Sonnex valves (do a search). At the same time I installed the transgo shift kit and the shudder went away.
Unfortunately I lost overdrive recently but that had nothing to do with the previous problems (35,000 miles later). I have a high mileage transmission (150,000) and have always abused it. Can't complain... New MUCH IMPROVED transmission should be in Friday...
