I suspect the c-clip is there to stop the man. shift valve piston from moving in too far when you manually select 1st gear. Look at how long the last detent is in this picture and it may make sense. I'm just guessing though.

HiO

This pic is with the trans in Park.

The c clip stops the Manual valve from coming out.

What effect does the VB have on the O/D? Does it shift firm into and out of that as well? Is there any effect on that whole converter locking and unlocking thing that happens?

The most obvious changes are:

An increase in noise from the tranny in park or neutral. That same increase in noise is not audible in rolling operation.

Very firm and swift 1-2 shift. Especially at 3/4-throttle. Like a kick in the pants from a jilted lover. I'm diggin' it.

Faster 2-3 and 3-OD shifts.

I have not noticed any appreciable difference in the TC lock/unlock timings. I've only got a 4.6L, though, so I'm already used to it hunting on hills, etc.

I have the FTVB in my '01 Lightning and absolutley love it. The shifts are so aggressive, I love the tire bark during the 1-2 shift, and the tire chirp I get at WOT during the 2-3 shift. Gregg Evans had designed a product that is a perfect example of form following funtion. I highly recommend the FTVB to anyone who dosen't have it. Keep up the good work Gregg.

Hey Greg,

Sorry I just remembered about this thread and checked it. Yea I think the 1-2 shift for me is too hard. It can jerk a bit too much. I love the other shift points though, nice a fast without any jerk. If you had a different spring that I could swap out that would be great. I had a shop do my install since I wanted my fluid changed at the time and I couldn't take the tranny apart in my Apt. complex. (I have a feeling they may have frowned on that). I am willing to pay for it if you have it. Let me know what you think!
