4R70W question

Dealer says this is normal...you decide...
Put into park, our driveway is on a hill, so when you take the brake off, it rolls back a little. When you put it back in drive/reverse, it makes a loud tinny clunk. It doesn't seem to be as bad when you park on level ground. Any thoughts???

It's normal. You're putting a lot of pressure on the parking pawl (the part in the transmission that keeps vehicle from rolling).

I always use the parking brake before putting truck into park.

Is it something that will eventually wear out? It's in a '99 Expy
with about 68K on it.

It is normal. If you park on any kind of an incline, without using the parking brake, the weight of the truck ends up on the transmission.

On a hill:
  • Stop
  • Put transmission in Neutral
  • Apply parking brake
  • Take your foot off the brake (this puts the weight on the parking brake, instead of the transmission)
  • Put you foot back on the brake and shift into Park
