6spd manual/clutch

Hello. I just bought an 03 F250 super duty 4X4 with 6 speed manual and V10 motor. It has about 300 miles on it as of today. When I am in reverse out of a parking spot, or clutch in 1st, or at times going from 1st to 2nd, there is a clunk noise that comes from under the truck at about the seat area.

I have a neighbor that used to be a mechanic, he now manages a parts warehouse. He came out tonight to see my new truck, I told him about the noise, he had me go back and forward acouple times while looking under the truck. He said the transmission, transfer case and drive shafts were bouncing pretty bad when I clutched. He seems to feel that a clutch bearing is bad, ot that something else in the clutch is wrong. I don't recall all that he said.

I was just wondering, I know, or at least I assume that this transmission is a little heavier duty than his since I think it was originally built for the diesels and more torque. Plus he drive an inline 6 with a manual. I was aware of the noise but it never really concerned me, it almost sounded like it should be there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have an appt set with service on Wed for another issue. Wonder if I should bring this up, or if it is normal. Thank you.

Don't know if it is the same trans as the diesel, but if it is I'd have the dealer check it.

We have a F550 service truck with the diesel engine that has 60K on it and is on its third trans. It has the 6 speed trans with the low gear and OD. The problem we have had was that it wouldn't shift smoothly and it would pop out of overdrive. It would eventually get so bad that you couldn't get it to stay in OD at all.

Ford did not cover any of ours under warranty, first one was at 37k, just out of warranty.

Dealer claims these trans do not have a history of failing, but reman trans are available. If there isn't a problem with these, where did Ford find all these trans to rebuild.

Oh yeah, my brother-in-law had a F250 w/diesel and six speed manual with the same problem.

Have the dealer check it, and make sure they note it on the work order so that you have something on record if it lets go after warranty. Good luck.

Yes, it is the same one as the diesels. It is going to a dealer tomorrow morning and will have them check it. I am now told that it is my hydraulic clutch that makes the noise and that it is perfectly normal. Still intend on having the dealer check it but you know dealers and problems with new vehicles. It is all supposed to be that way.
