Wont go into any gear.....
Wont go into any gear.....
Went to take the truck (2000 V6, 5 Speed) for a drive on Saturday and it wouldn't go into gear... Not just 1st or reverse, but none of them. Tried cutching in and out a bunch of times and even had someone roll the truck back and forth for me.. No way was it going into gear. Had to actually turn the ignition off and put it into gear and then restart. Is there something electrical that could have caused this ??? Got about 2000 KM left on the warranty and was hoping someone had something that I can go to the dealer with..
Thanks.
Thanks.
1998 4.2l v6 4x4 same problem
I had the same problem with my truck. I have taken it to get checked out and everyone says that it is fine. The fluid in manuals isn' changed until 120,000 miles. I believed it was a mechanical problem, I had my clutch cable tightened but the problem still comes and goes. It may have something to do with the pressure plate or throw out bearing. I would love to hear if anyone had diagonosed this problem?
chizman,
Have a look at the clutch master cylinder and see if the oil level is low. Then go take a look under the truck. You are looking for a hydraulic oil leak. Is the clutch pedal softer than usual? If every thing checks out it may be your shift pins.
There is nothing electrical that can cause this condition.

The 5 speed is a Mazda POS and is a discrace to Ford. I have a '99 V8 4.6L and I can bearly get the POS into gear most of the time. I wish mine would just completely tear up but I don't know what I can replace it with.
Thanks for the updates. Where exactly is the master cylinder? On the firewall? Had it at the dealer and they couldn't recreate the problems but it was there this morning...At least they have a record of me asking about it. I went looking specifically for a 5 speed when I went to buy and now Im starting to regret it...

Yes, the master cylinder on the firewall. It has a small translucent plastic resevoir on the firewall above and to the left seperate from it. It is to the left of the of the brake master when looking towards the rear of the truck. It has a black hose running from the resevoire it to the clutch master cylinder.
Nothing beats the thrill of driving a manual tranny, except the Mazda POS, when everything is working properly.
Check out my post on the tranny at; https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=121514
Hopefully this will cure some of the problems.

Thanks for the tips. I suspect I've got the dreaded synchro problem seeing as I get the "grind" going into third when I get on the gas a little too much. It really is too bad these tranny's arent a little stronger as most of the fun of driving it is jamming gears.
