Slip Yoke location?
Slip Yoke location?
After reading 1,000 posts on the tranny "thunk", "clunk" problem
(which I have)... I'm going to try greasing the Slip Yoke with teflon grease. This may only be temp fix, but the clunk is driving
Where is the slip yoke located on the driveshaft at the transfer case?? Can I just remove the 4 bolts then pull back on the driveshaft to grease?

The slip yoke is connected to the driveshaft via a universal joint, at the transmission/trasfer case. Sounds like you have the right idea.
You then just have to coat all of the splines inside the slip yoke with a generous amount of teflon grease and slide the slip yoke back into the trasfer case exactly as it came out.
- Index the rear companion flange and driveshaft flange. The driveshaft must be reinstalled exactly as it had been or it will vibrate.
- Remove the 4 driveshaft bolts. You may need to jack one wheel, so that the driveshaft can be rotated to access all 4 bolts. These bolts are also torqued to about 80 lb/ft. They're not easy to remove.
- Remove the driveshaft from the companion flange and slide the driveshaft/slip yoke out of the transmission/transfer case.
You then just have to coat all of the splines inside the slip yoke with a generous amount of teflon grease and slide the slip yoke back into the trasfer case exactly as it came out.
