Lock up in reverse

Several times now my transmission or other drive train component locks up and the truck will not move when in reverse. It will shift into gear but will not move, the engine labours but cannot move the truck. If I shift to Drive it will go forward no problem, back to reverse and it won't move. After doing this several times there is a loud clunk and everything seems ok. At first I thought maybe the brakes were frozen with ice from melting snow but it has been mild enough here now that it cannot be frozen.

It is a 4 wheel drive 5.4 liter automatic. This problem occurs in either 4 wheel or 2 wheel mode.

Of course when I go to my dealer 400km away it will not do it.

Any ideas?

I just had the same prob happen to me today!

Im gonna go have it checked tomorow. I had mine parked uphill in my driveway so i thought that had something to do with it or problably the emergency brake getting stuck. After several times trying to get out, I was able to. It only does this when i first start it up. Let me know if u find the problem to this. Much help woulld be appreciated.

Finally had it trailered to the dealer (400 km and 1 week). They checked the transmission as being ok but found the parking brake had fallen apart. All the bits were silently floating around in the hub and would jam when going in reverse. They fixed that under warranty but soaked me 600 for for front brakes that were worn out.
