my tranny can learn!?!?
my tranny can learn!?!?
Hey, new guy here. I just got a 2001 F150 Supercab 4x4 Offroad with the class III towing package and the 5.4L a few weeks ago. What a great truck. I was reading in the manual, or somewhere, that the tranny "learns" your driving style, and adjusts its shifting points accordingly. Now, my first car was a 71 Chevelle, second car was a 72 Camaro, stroker with a rock crusher and 3.42 gears... so I drive with a bit more of a lead foot than the averge joe. I'd like for my truck to hold first for a little longer incase I decide to get on it. Actually, i'd like for it to hold every gear a little longer, just incase. So anyway, I read that after you disconnect the battery, you have to go through some process, and it re-learns its shifting over the first 100 miles or so.
My question is... would this be a worth-while thing to do? Does it really "learn" enough to make a noticable difference? Or will it adapt to my driving over time? I find myself putting the selector all the way down to "1" a lot because it likes to hit 2nd ASAP unless you're on or near the floor.
Thanks in advance

The manual is not quite accurate. What really happens is the software learns how long each shift takes from when it is commanded to when it is completed. It then adjusts the pressure for the next shift to make it complete in the proper amount of time. Driving style does not enter into it at all.
