How often for tranny flushes?

I bought my '98 F150 4x4 ORP with 52k on it. I immediately did a tranny flush and filter change. The truck just rolled over 91k, and I had the tranny flushed and filter changed along with other work being done (oil/filter, brakes, tires, etc).

What is the best interval to do a tranny flush/filter change? Is every 40-50k too long between intervals? Can the filter go between changes (i.e. change the filter every other flush instead of every time)?

I plan on keeping this truck a long time and want to go the max between overhauls and replacements.

30k minimum as per manual. But I do mine about every 20 or once a year. **** about my tranny. Had to replace one on my Taurus LX for about 3k and don't want to do that again. Do everything I can to make it last.

I swap the filter every other time and do it myself. I go to Valvoline and have them do the fluid exchange on the opposite service.

I'm with John, almost. I use the 30K interval and change the filter every other time.

Damn, I thought I was doing good.

<sigh>

Oh well, only missed it by 10k and it looked fine when it was checked out.

Thanks for the heads-up guys.

I'm going to be doing mine every 25k. $50 bucks for fluid is a lot cheaper than a rebuild.

Also dont forget your rear end, heh.

I replaced my fluid with Amsoil synthetic at 5K and I don't plan on changing till 100K, if I have the truck that long
