O.K.to tow?

As you can see by my signature below I have "99 4.6 MANUAL and Dad wants to give me a camper with a equalizer hitch ,21 ft long with a wt (listed on the trailer and on the registration form) as 1400lbs. My question is : if I install a class 3 reciever will I have any trouble towing this trailer? Do I need to do anything to the truck besides the hitch?

Better get it weighed - 21 ft and 1400# doesn't add up.

Hi Jeff

Like IanN said...double check wt. of the TT. Dry/loaded.

There are reasons for the equalizer. One being... it distributes TT tongue wt. to tow vehicle axles. May/maynot need?

Whats the tow rating on your rear bumper?

You may/maynot need class 3?

I have towed my boat etc, 1200#+/-, with just the bumper w/ball (5000# rated)...of course with my 23TT...i use the frame mounted hitch/receiver and equalizer.

Do you need to upgrade? Just stay within your ratings. If the TT is indeed that light...your truck should pull it ok. As you probably know...you'll need plugs for TT lights etc. Be aware you may have less tow wt. ratings with the manual.

Oh, be easy on the clutch....

Good luck...OT

Does the trailer have brakes (trailers over 1500# need brakes -- and if it does not have them, then it may indeed be that light)?
