Towing with new truck
I just bought a new F150 with the 5.4 ltr and 3.55 LS, and want to know when it is ok to start towing a boat. I would like to tow a 3,000 lb boat form California to Nevada (about 600 mi round trip) this weekend, but don’t know if it is a smart thing to do yet. The truck currently has about 300 miles. Any additional towing advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I heard someone say 500 miles before towing so, you should be close enough by the weekend if that's true.
Your boat is only slightly less than mine. I got 14 mpg on a long trip but, it is relativel flat here. Otherwise, I get about 18.5. You probably don't have a clue what your mpg is with the few miles you have.
I tow with the OD on. I would turn it off if the trans was 'hunting' but, that never happened.
Good to have a new truck but, what about the boat trailer?
Is it in good shape?
That would be much more likely to give you trouble than the truck.
My poor LoadRite has been dipped in salt water for 15 years.

Thanks for your responses…. I back from the trip and the truck performed flawlessly, at least form a towing perspective. (Engine has a strange ticking… like a sticky valve) I averaged 14.1 miles on the first tank and 13.4 on the second.
