I stated a few times in the past that my 1998 4.6 L was not sufficient towing my 26ft Prowler Travel Trailer and I still feel that way. Now I'm not ******* the 4.6, I liked it a lot. But sometimes those trailer manufacturer's don't list the weights properly. And even with the weight distribution setup, I believe the tongue weight was still to much (not to mention factoring in the wind resistance).

Now I did tow a car trailer with a older firebird on it, came close to 7,000 pounds and the 4.6 performed great. Again, less tongue weight and less wind resistance. So while I believe the 4.6 is very competent, it was just not a good setup for me.

Just got back from LV. Always like my trips there. Sure is growing.
Got 17mpg (solo) not bad for heavy 4X4 etc. truck.

I understand what your saying. The only time i get unhappy with the 4.6L..is towing long grades/mtns, when im fully loaded. However im getting used to being the caboose

Fully loaded im about 3-400# under GCWR. I learned long ago to weigh my load. Amazing how it all adds up.

When towing TT...no boat etc...naturally less load...better go.

I may/maynot upgrade. Still undecided.

JD; I TOW A GOOD SIZE BOAT A 23 FT ALUM. WITH 2 LARGE O/B MOTORS.DONT KNOW THE WEIGHT BUT SHE IS ONTHE HEAVEY SIDE. MY 4.6 DID OK BUT FOR WESTERN PA NOT GOOD ENOUGH.SO I BOUGHT A SET OF J.B.A.HEDDERS FORM THIS ON LINE STORE.PUT THEM ON MYSELF.LEFT ON THE STOCK CATS AND HOOK UP A RAVIN CAT BACK SYS. THE PERFORMANCE PICKED UP ALMOST RIGHT AWAY. IT STILL STRUGGLED SOME SO I OPENED UP THE AIR BOX TO 4INS.INSTALLED A K/N FILTER.DISCONNECTED THE BATT. FOR 20 MINS.AND TOOK ,FOR A RIDE. IT STUMBLED A COUPLE TIMES,UNTIL THE COMP.RE SET ,ITS A HULLER NOW..NOT TO MENTION THE MUCH BETTER GAS MILAGE..IF YOU HAVE THE BUCKS PUT ON A SET OF J.B.A.S YOU WONT BE SORRY. GOOD LUCK OLDGRAY......
