Decided on a 5th wheel. got it today!
We had a hard time deciding on a used slide in or 5th wheel that we could afford. Finally found '94 Kit 21ft 5th wheel and man is she clean. The dry weight is 4600# so it should be an easy tow.
I looked around for a few months and it seemed that the dealers weren’t asking that much more than the individuals so we just jumped on what we liked and I haggled my usual 10% off of asking price. We don't have kiddo's so all we needed was a queen bed, no bunks. Of course the DR tabe converts to a fairly spacious bed to in case of dog house or company.
The dealer also through in TTL and the hitch/brake controller and install. I did ask him what hitch we were going to use and I had him upgrade to a 15K# Reese for $175. I never like to use the least expensive of anything. He told me the Reese would last me forever and I could take it with me if I upgrade my truck and haul a bigger trailer.
I saw the guys talking about Silverton-Ouray and Red Mountain Pass. That is my favorite part of Colorado so I know we will be taking that route.
Now we can't wait for the weather to warm up a *little* so we can take off. I think we may sleep out there in the driveway for kicks sometime soon.
I still have some reading and figuring ahead of me as far as de-winterizing and get used to the waste disposal routine. I tried to talk the Mrs. into taking care of that but she wouldn't go for it.
Now I'll have to get a F-150 online sticker for the 5th wheel so if any member see me they will know.

Sounds like a nice set-up !!!!!!!!!
We need some pics of this rig !!!
Yeah, I'm the weeny that avoids Red Mountain Pass.
Very beautiful area and worth the drive...I just won't
tow anything over that pass down into Ouray !!!
Have fun

Hi Geek, sounds like a nice setup, you should really enjoy travelling now. I bought an 87 Prowler 5'ver at the end of last summer and picked up an 01 F150 in September so I've only towed it once and that was to park it for the winter. Wasn't enough miles to really test it so I'm anxious for the snow to leave and really try it. Although my trailer is old she is in great shape and will only be used about a month a year when we travel. I'm gonna put on new rubber and see if she has enough clearance on the bed rails, if not then I'll raise the trailer for a little extra clearance. I'd like about 6" clearance, I've seen some beds crushed when they hit and don't need that. I may upgrade my controller to the Prodigy also, heard good things about it, I have an old Kelsey now and will be travelling on some good hills this summer so I'd like good brakes. I have a 40' Park model trailer also and that is why we only use the small one for travelling. It does get used on weekends when my kids come to visit at the park, they call it the guest house. Happy camping.
