brake controller hook question (yes I searched!)

I just spent the past hour looking through a years worth of posts in this forum since search doesn't work. Found out most everything I need, just have a couple of quick questions.

In a few weeks I will be towing a travel trailer for a vacation. I need to get my trailer brakes working beforehand. My truck is a 98 F150 SC 4x4 ORP with the 7700lb tow package. I've been all up, down and through the truck and I have the 7 pin to 4 pin adapter dealie, but not any of the relays or brake controller connectors. The truck was purchased used, and all of the manuals and such were missing.

I called my local dealer, and he says that they have the pigtail in stock for $7, and that there are two relays, but I will have to check to see which ones are missing.

Soo, are these the only parts I need? Are there any additional fuses? Can someone with a 98 fax me a copy of the booklet or instructions that you received with your truck? Or is it just that easy?

Any help is appreciated. I don't want to be running around like an idiot wasting time the day I get the trailer trying to get this working.

Thanks!

-Jay

Hi Jay

Maybe you already know & fixed?

If TT has elect. brakes, you'll need the elect. brake controler.

Look again, up under dash..also look inside your underdash fuse compartment for the wire harness...that also goes to the rear 7pin connector for TT. Of course..if not there..then gotta run one?

If brake controller does not plug into that underdash harness, then you'll need the correct adaptor to do that.

I cant send pic....maybe your f.panel has # for each fuse.

Inside under (drivers side) dash...fuse panel:

Location #18...5A...TT elect. Brake Controller
" #23...10A...Trailer tow batt. charge

Now underhood in the power (fuse) box...should be on left side by fender...

Location #1...20A...TT running lamp relay/TT backup lamp relay..mini fuse

#16...40A (maxi fuse)..TT batt. charge relay

#28...30A (maxi fuse) TT elect. brake controller

You may know...97 or 98 may have another fuse box (smaller) that maybe close or just behind the power (fuse) box under hood??Look close as it may have black tape on it? If so, there maybe some fuses in there for TT? 99 do not have that, as fuse layout is different.

Hope that helps. If already fixed, well, i got good finger workout, and you got TT fixed?

Good luck....OT
