I agree, just because you can do something once successfully doesn't mean it was safe or the best thing for your vehicle....

That being said, I've towed over limits with a lowered truck:

I was way over tongue weight limit, probably over GVRW, and possibly over towing rating. It was down right scary doing a fast lane change (lots of trailer sway)

Did i make it to my destination safely? You bet.
Would i consider towing this much again with a lowered truck? Nope.

Not to mention i didnt have very much ground clearance

It's in good shape and the book value now is less than $2000. If I want to go somewhere and bring my house with me, I'll rent a RV.
Yea, I guess me too. Based on you good judgement I'll just give up towing up anything but a 5x8 enclosed carge trailer from now on and never even think of towing any 5th wheel with anything less than a 1 ton HD truck. Sorry I even questioned your judgement oh great one...

Why do you keep piling on? Do whatever you want with your truck, if you disagree with my advice or don't like it, just throw me on your ignore list or something. You have more than made your point.

Nice rig and setup Shadow_Grey. We took our fiver on a return trip to Florida and back to Ontario last January, travelled over 9000 km in 3 wks one of the longest and the steepest part was probably at Monteagle going over the Cumberland Plateau. Truck handled it beautifully & drama free all the way. It was nice and comfortable towing the fifth compared to towing TT's from the years before.. Many on this forum would have you towing nothing bigger than little single axle box trailers around.....

Thanks...these new trucks when equiped right can handle a LOT, more safely, than many people think they know. These truck are engineered to the nth degree. Things like the electronics doesn't allow for sway, have antilock for individual brakes, and even sense if the trailer isn't slowing it's share and will apply more bias to the trailer brakes. My 1/2 ton truck is only 2000 lbs less than my dads and my brothers 3500 cummins trucks in payload and I have a X-Lite trailer to compensate for it.
So 1/2 ton is roughly 2000 lbs payload
and 3/4 ton is roughly 3000 lbs payload
and 1 ton is roughly 4000lbs payload
IF, and a big IF, properly equiped.
