Just hope you can stop it once you get it rolling. Should have brakes on the trailer though.

You need a smaller trailer or a bigger truck, sorry.
I understand the term "legal" with respect to GVWR, but is there a "legal" limit to GCWR? If the 5.4 could tow the rig safely, then it isn't obvious to me that there will be any safety issues with towing with the 4.6. The only possible exception would be that the truck would be too slow to safely accelerate on to the freeway.

6500 pounds loaded is more than you'll want for your truck, and you'll be more like 7500 pounds loaded. Food, cooking gear (pots, pans, silverware, plates, cups, coffee pot, grill), chairs, clothes, bathroom supplies, tools, jacks, electric cords, patio mat: they all add up quickly. And every TT "dry weight" is lower than shipped weight, by usually by 200-300 pounds, but sometimes 800 pounds more. Mine was 300 pounds more than dry weight.

Thanks

I sure do appreciate everyones response. We have towed it about 45 min on the intetstate and had no problems. My husband is a truck driver and has driven many things with trailers and he feels comfortable with the towing on his truck. We dont plan on taking the camper to the mountains just some lakes and camp grounds in alabama. If anyone has anyother comments they are welcome!!

stx towing

Hi...I just bought a 2012 stx. It has 3.7 engine, supercab with 6.5' box. Could I pull a 6' x 14 ' cargo trailer that weighs about 2000 lbs ? What is maximum weight I could haul in the trailer ? Thanks....Michael

Yes it will. Will it be enjoyable is another thing. I have moved around within a 10 mile area my skid steer with our '98 in my sig. It handles well, just a little short in the motor area. I took it easy when I used that truck, but it has 190K on the original engine/trans and the valves sound like they are floating much above 3500rpm. Solid engine, it will do it. The truck should be rated for what trans, gears & how the suspension is set up not on the engine. Weight is how it is handled, not how much power you have to move it fast. Many old I6 fords doing lots of heavy work with less pwr and probly rating than the old 5.8 had. The engine is just for how fast you want to get there, or the speed you feel you need to pull a hill at.

I listen to what Mitch has to say. A lot of good info there. CAN you tow it? Sure.. But will you want to? You're gonna be wanting a bigger truck here pretty quick (IMO)
