Smile Towing boat

Just purchased a 1997 F150 Ext Cab 4x4 (ORP) Just curriuos how this will tow a 3500lb bass boat... have yet to try it because of winter time and the snow flying up here in Iowa, truck has a 4.6L w/ 3.55 in the rear, also what kind of gas milage should i expect when towing... has got to be better then the chevy tahoe i traded in

You'll know the boat is back there, but the truck should do fine. We tow our ~3000# Champion F&S (For Sale) with the Expedition and it did a good job. A Superchip will help.

Yup, you'll know it is there. Depending on how many hills you encounter you may not be able to use OD. I had a 97 with the same config as you. Actually on mine locking out OD actually saved fuel. I'd expect 11-14mpg. The faster you try to tow the worse it'll get. If you tow over 70 expect 10mpg.

I say, hook'er up and see what she'll do. No matter what happens, she'll do better in the Spring without the snow and whatnot.

But going down the road now would get you the respect, admiration and envy of any bass fishermen who saw you and all those that heard about you!

If you're worried about your gas mileage, just plan your trips so you are only driving downhill.
