You could get the LT tires if they come in the size wheel for your trailer. My guess is that you will only find them in 15" size. You'll need to get new wheels that will also be able to handle the 80 psi. That might be hard to find for a 5 lug bolt pattern?

Not sure what 'age generation' you belong to, but I do know that as I have "aged", my driving habits have changed too.. In other words, I've 'mellowed' out some... I guess that might be why by the time folks are 80 years old, they can't drive anymore!

I use the travel time as part of the vacation.. I'm not all about getting from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time.. My 'vacations' are only long 3 or 4 day weekends, so time is short, but it lasts from Friday thru Monday on the long ones and that all includes the travel time.. We'll stop along the way if there is something of interest. Make note of places that we would like to visit or take a road trip to later on. We enjoy the scenery, discuss family, friends and the next 'project' we are going to do..

I do know that my truck gets a lot worse mpg going over 60 mph while towing... I'm able to manage 10-11 mpg keeping it around 60. Bump up to 65 and it goes down to around 8-9 mpg. The same as when I'm pulling the grades over the pass.

I don't even 'speed' anymore when I'm not towing.. I used to have the whole radar detector thing and would always go 5-10 over.. Now I just ride the right lane and enjoy the ride! It's like driving in your own world, as those that are going faster, simply pass you and are gone.. Those that I do come upon, I simply pass and they are gone... I've found that it's very rare to have any other cars around you when I'm just doing the actual speed limit... If I want even more seclusion, I'll drop down 1 or 2 mph below and even the ones that are doing the speed limit will pass on by..

I like to call drivers that are going 10 over, "rabbits"... They get way ahead of me, but it's funny how many are pulled over down the road too! Not that I'm wishing you a ticket, but that's what can happen when you speed, so all that 'saved' time is lost, even if you only get a warning.... You've still lost all that time and mpg's....

I'm not here to preach or tell you what to do... Each to their own as far as I'm concerned. Besides, why would you want to ride side by side with the same group of cars for miles and miles?? Even if you are passing 'everyone', someone will always be in front of you no matter what!

I'll bet that if you try it (slowing down), you'll find the trip even more enjoyable and that extra hour over 500 miles really didn't matter all that much anyway..

When I'm on the road, I generally set my cruise to 3 or 4 mph over the limit, verified with GPS. When I tow, I do the same thing, but not over 65. Lemme tell ya - when I was shuttling back and forth from here to Chicago with the trailer, I-55 was absolute torture driving 58. IL has finally dropped the 55 mph towing limit. The only upside to that was 15 mpg loaded and 17 mpg with an empty trailer. Kicking it up to 65 in MO and hitting the hills on I-44 dropped that mileage down to about 13 loaded and 15 empty.

It's the factor of stopping and maintaining control of that truck and trailer no matter what happens on the road as you travel, including blowing out a tire.
