Oh yea, I have my older brake controller hooked u already, this will plug into the old wires and maybe even the same bracket both make by Tekonsha.

 

I am looking to get the P3 I know its more then I need but I want the best. My question is:

I have the trailer brake harness from Ford do I need this or not? Do I use the harness and hook the P3 up to it??

Well... depends, the one you have, is it made by ford for tekonsha? Or does it plug in to your truck and have bare wires on the other end?
Ok, if it has the bare wires and you get the p3 it will come with a generic plug that plug into the p3 and has bare wires on the other end... you will then just connect the wires together and yes it tells you the color code ( truck and controller ) for the wires but for most of them it is black to black kinda thing... I believe one of the wires was not a color match... ( it will tell you ).
Now if it is a ford to tekonsha plug to plug then you are home free.
I used the one that came with my truck on my old tekonsha the first time ( soldered the wires that come with the truck to the wires that came with the controller ) and unplugged it from the old one and plugged it into the new p3.
