Trailer Brake Controller
Trailer Brake Controller
Ok, I have done some extensive searches in several Forums to find my answer but to no avail. I have seen some members with my same problem but no solution has been posted. Maybe you all can help. The Tow Command has been acting up lately while towing my fifth wheel. As I'm coming to a stop, I noticed that the trailer was pushing me a bit and that only a small amount of bars in the display light up. I have always used the gain setting at 7.5 and worked perfectly before. It doesn't matter how much force I apply to the brake pedal, only 4-5 bars light up. Here's the weird thing, it works fine when I use the manual lever. All bars light up and the trailer stop wonderfully. I have changed the brake pressure transducer but the TBC only worked like it should for a distance of about 3 miles. While operating it with the new transducer, I noticed that the bars surged up and down eratically for about a second or two before it worked perfectly. Then, nada; back to square one. I will be towing my friends TT this afternoon to attempt to find out if it is my truck or my trailer. Any suggestions? Ground issues maybe?
As I have stated in the past we have had problems with the factory installed "Tow Command" integrated TBC. On those vehicles we have bypassed the system and installed a Tekonsha Prodigy. You will get an error light on the dash stating that the trailer braking system is not working after bypassing the factory controller.
Yours isn't the 1st and I'm sure won't be the last.
BTW, Ford Service/Dealer has said that all of the systems we bypassed were working correctly, but we couldn't get more than 3 volts out of the system.
Sometimes a $99 solution works best.
