Trailer lighting connector question

I have a 12' jon boat with a trailer that I would like to start towing around with my 06' FX4. The problem is that I can't connect the 4-prong connector to the truck. The connector that is currently in place is also a 4-prong and is tucked really close up near my bumper. Do I need an adapter or do I need to think about rewiring it to fit my needs.

Please advise.

Why can't you connect it. It is a standard 4 pin connector. Are the wires from the trailer too short? If so lengthen them, a lot easier than messing with the connector on the truck, plus you do not have something hanging down from the truck ready to get ripped off.

They make an extension to plug in between your truck and trailer. It has plugs on both ends so there is no need for hacking the wiring of the truck or trailer.

Well I will look at it again closer, but I swear it isn't going to fit. I may have to rewire the boat to make thinks easier.

Maybe someone at some point put a truck end 4 way on the trailer to suit their needs. Proper trailer end should have 3 prongs exposed and 1 (ground) enclosed.
