Weighed my setup today

That's my empty 3 horse slant load horse trailer hooked to my 2008 F250. It's a little heavier empty than I figured, but the tongue load isn't bad at 1100lbs.

BTW, this means you CAN pull this trailer with a 1/2 ton without going over the payload.

1100 on the tongue puts it over the max for most Class 3 hitches with WD. I'd also like to know what the rear GAWR is on a 1/2 ton, 4440 sounds like it might be a bit high. I'd also bet that you add horses and it will definitely be over 1/2 ton territory.

That's a big 3 horse..... 5400lbs empty. A Titan Avalanche (steel) 3 horse slant is only 3990lbs empty... mind you that is on the zero foot short wall tack. Empty tongue weight is also less than 1100lbs... closer to 450.

But sure, most 1/2 ton trucks can pull 5k.

But the deal is that weight is on an empty trailer.
Fill it with 3 good size horses, tack, feed, water, etc. and you are WAAAY over weight on any 1/2 ton.

It's a gooseneck glc.

And that rear axle weight is on my F250 which weighs quite a bit more than a F150.

With 3 horses at ~1k each it's 8400lbs. Add 3 barrel saddles, pads, and bridles at ~50 each it's ~8600lbs. Those are the only 2 things that would be added before heading to a race. I don't haul feed or water.

Also, the horse compartment is centered over the axles, and the tack room is in the rear of the trailer, so no added tongue weight. That puts it at less than 9k lbs with 1100lbs tongue weight. When it was hooked to my F150 Crew with 1600lbs payload, NO ratings were exceeded.

Not sure, but aren't the 2" receivers on these trucks Class IV? In any case, the tow guides say 800# max undistributed, and 1200 max distributed. In no way is 1,100# tongue weight 1/2 ton territory with all 1/2 tons. Many quad cabs without a tow package could put you out right there. Maybe a regular or supercab has a comfort zone, but in how many cases do you tow a trailer of the said magnitude by yourself?

I think that's a moot point now - the trailer is a gooseneck.
