mounting brake controller in center console

Has anybody ever installed a brake controller in the center console? If so did you have to buy any additional wiring and how hard was it to run the wires through?

Do you mean the armrest console under the lid?I suppose it would just be a matter of extending wires and routing them under the shifter tunnel(?) and into the center console.
I would not do it myself as it would make trailer brake adjustment kinda awkward and if I happen to get into a Holy *&^% situation with a swaying trailer and I need to grab trailer brakes NOW I wouldn't be able to.

You know I thought that about the trailer swaying condition but then I have been towing for over 10 years and have never had that situation.

I've been towing for over 20 years and have never needed to grab only the trailer brakes in an emergency either, but I still have it mounted where I can hit the lever without looking if needed... (I will always 'test' it when first pulling out after hooking it up just to make sure it truely is working!)

Had a trailer sway on the 3rd trailer I ever towed over 25 years ago; and not since.

Last year I had a coupler break and come off the ball. Needed to grab the trailer brakes before engaging the truck brakes so it wouldn't run into me.

You can't tell when or if it is going to happen. You just have to be prepared and have it available.

That is a reason why I will never install a brake controller on the bottom of the dash either. (very common installation place) You will not be able to see the road and/or trailer if you have to reach so far down for the controller. I guess if you are Stretch Arm-Strong it could work. (remember those??)

mounting brake controller in center console

I just installed a brake controller in my 98. I put it in a cubby hole in the dash where it still easy to reach. I tried to upload a pic of it, but couldn't.

Created an album "brake controller install" showing a bunch of pics and basic directions. Still need to add a few more pics and re-sort the order.
No exact dimensions, for everything was a custom fit / by eye.
Hope it helps!
