Brake contoller plug

Does my 98 have the plug under the dash to plug in a brake controller, or do I have to wire it separately. I'm not sure if I have the towing package or not, but the truck does have a Ford hitch and Ford 7-pole connector so its likely.

Also, do you know a good place to get one of the adapter harnesses to plug in a Tekonsha Prodigy?

You will have a gray plastic plug under your dash. It will be near the steering column or brake pedal. It will be taped to a wiring harness under your dash. If you have the 7 pin at the rear, then you have the towing package. Check etrailer.com for the harness for your Prodigy. You will enjoy that controller. I have had mine for 3 years and it is perfect.

Sweet, thanks.

While I was under there looking, I found a box hanging down. When I opened it, i realized that it had two relays in it. Is that possibly the add-on relay box for the towing package?

No, all the towing relays from 1997-2003 are under the hood

My 99 Navi came with the factory towing package. But the kit that came with the truck that included the plug-in wiring harness for the brake controller, as well as the relays for under hood to operate electric brakes, backup lights, trailer battery charging, etc... and the 7pin to 4 pin flat wiring adapter was missing... it was a pre-owned truck so I didnt receive it when I bought the truck. I had to purchase the kit from a Ford dealer and was able to plug in the relays I needed, as well as easily wire in the brake controller.

The point is, don't assume that since the truck has the tow package it is ready for the brake controller. You may also need the wiring harness, AND some of the under hood relays. Using the Ford wiring harness is fairly straightforward to crimp the proper wires together between it and the controller, then it just plugs in under the dash.

I found the Tekonsha-to-ford adapter harnes and plugged it in. I haven't tried a trailer with it, but it seems to be functioning.

I'll check for the relays and make sure they're there.
