Best trailer coupler?
***insert hi-jack here***
Quick question for the experts. I have a galvanized trailer for my 16' aluminum boat with a 1 7/8" coupling. My trailer is basically identical to a jet ski trailer. I have been thinking of changing out the front coupling portion to a 2" set up, possibly this bull dog you all speak of. My reason is I also tow my buddies boat in the summer and his is a 2" set up. Most trailers I have ever towed are a 2" set up so rather then keeping two draw bars in the tool box I have been thinking of swapping out my 1 7/8". I plan on keeping my boat\load-rite trailer for a while so is the bull dog worth it for me? How does it match with the galvanize?

They are kinda a thing of the past and not used generally in newer trailers.
Bulldog makes A-frame couplers like I pictured above as well as straight frame couplers available for round and square frame tongue stock in sizes from 2.25" to 3.5"
All Bulldog couplers wil be painted steel. Not great for a marine environment but otherwise untouchable in design. The bulldog wil be available in grey or black but can be painted with an aluminum/zinc paint to closely match the trailer.
A few manufacturers' make zinc plated designs like Shelby, but in a poorer overall design. Stay away from Fulton and their oil finish in a marine setting.
Hi-Jack Over...........
Hey Guys. Didn't mean to break in on you, but I guess I did. A friend sent me your link because of how I rant and rave about my quickbite coupler. He found your forum through a Google search for best coupler. I also like the bulldog and have used them for years, but I put a quickbite on an airstream trailer that I bought, that had a coupler that was giving some trouble in need of replacement. The guy at the repair shop recomended the quickbite. I now have them on everything.
In my opinion, they are the safest coupler you can buy. They are somewhat more secure than the bulldog, but that you would have to decide for yourself. The design makes them idiot proof. They are very similar to the old autolock, but with many improvements. I am confused about the wear. I know a guy with one on his airstream and they checked it at 12,000 miles and it showed almost no wear at all.
I love the fact that it has help lining up built in. At first I was a bit weary of the rods because I had bought some rods before on magnets and they helped some, but I still had to shove the heavy trailers over some. i love the auto lock part. It is one sweet sound every time I hear it snap shut and I am still in the truck.
Well here I am again ranting and raving about the quickbite coupler. But I always felt it was better to get an opinion about how something works, from someone who had used one. I highly recomend you check them out for yourself. I have been towing for over 30 years and I love it. Not to mention that you guys are making me look bad in front of my friend. Don't worry he has a new Featherlite coming with a quickbite from the factory. Turns out it's a special option at Featherlite and cost him $175 extra. He wouldn't have done that if he hadn't liked it when I let him check mine out.

I am a Bulldog/Hammerblow fan. I like the simple and strong mechanicals and the fact that that at a glance I can tell if its securely locked. I have also chunked all my 1 7/8 hitches even the garden tractor trailer. Don't have a bulldog on everything though. My travel trailer has an inverted 2 5/16 a-frame hitch. (the a-frame goes under the trailer tongue) I wish I could replace it with a bulldog but I dont think bulldog makes one.
