Will my 4.6 pull the boat

Will me '07 4.6 Supercrew pull my dad's 22' boat? Open bow Sea Ray probably 4000 lbs and 1200 lb trailer. I have a VMP programmer if that info helps. Thanks.

well my 4.2 can pull a 19ft proline which weighs about 3500 pounds and about a 1000 pound trailor so i dont think you should have that big of a problem. The only thing is the factory leaf springs suck so you will be sagging but other than that i dont think youll have a problem

yea mines got a 4.6 with 3.55 gears and it will pull 5000 lbs as fast as you wanna go. it will be a little sluggish and bog down a little on steep climbs but its a tough motor. if it doesnt have a transmission cooler then you may want to take it easy on the hills though.

I used to pull a 3,000 (total) boat and trailer with a 3L V6 Ranger so you should be OK.

Thanks guys. It sounds like I should be ok. I live in Austin, TX so we do have some decent hills but there are ways I can take to the launch ramp that don't involve a lot of punishment. What do I need to do in terms of preserving the transmission? Is it imperitave that I get an auxillary cooler? How expensive is that and how hard? Or am I just ok altogether? Thanks.

For a tranny cooler, I would. I do it to every vehicle I own. You really don't want want to cook that fluid. As far as difficulty, they aren't hard-especially if you have all the correct connectors ahead of time.
