installing brake controller

hey guys i bought a 01 Screw Lariat. i dont think it has the towing package on it. i am about to install a brake controller in it. i heard that some trucks have a special plug under the dash, that you can just plug the controller into. i want to know if this is it?

ok thanks. so that means that the truck is prewired for the 7 blade plug also. it would just plug into the tail light harness. correct?

No, there's a dedicated harness for it, I believe it's on the left frame rail above the spare tire.

The trucks have pre-wired for it up until the frame connection. Buy the Ford 7/4 pin plug and it plugs right in there, ground wire is screwed on as is the old 4 pin one, you'll see and the last is unplugging the taillight plug, replugging with the new harness. It's easy as hell to do, universal ones require matching wire to wire, still pretty simple. Just make sure all the fuses underhood are there, plug in the controller and go.

thanks guys i appreciate the help. when i saw that ford wanted 110.00 dollars for the 7 blade plug, i said screw it and bought a universal one. got it all hooked today. it works perfect. i never knew how good electric brakes were on a 16' trailer(free axle). i love them.
