New guy with a question

I looked all over the site for the answer but not real pc friendly.

I am looking to bu a really nice 1994 f150 xlt 4x4 with auto tranny. This truck is super clean has 75,000 on it and some type of tow package. Looks like bags in the back? Anyways im trying to find out how much i can tow with it. Im looking at a trailer around 9k lbs. Not sure if its safe to pull or not. I am trying to get off work intime to ask the dealer what engine and axle ratio it has but the lot closes to dang early. I was wondering if someone might be able to help me with a chart or even tell me im crazy. The truck is really nice . If i have to I will got smaller then the 30ft camp trailer. But the truck is really nice and the price is only $4999. Just something I thought would be fun to buy for camping. Well ty

9k is too much for just about any F150. For that truck, I would stay at less than 6k if an 5.8, or 5k if an 5.0. If you want the 9k trailer, get an F250 or better.

I saw a local classified where a guy is trying to sell a 2001 F-150 fully loaded(Lariat or King Ranch?) with over 75,000 on it...

...for $13,500?

A few years ago, maybe. But times are pretty tough for sales of NEW pickups... used ones are barely moving. I doubt the seller could move this at all above 10k.

A 1994 F150 with the 6 cylinder and an auto will pull the 9k.
Now well or fast... and not safely.

Because it is an XLT it probaly has the 5.0 or 5.8 but the tranny is most likely an E4OD and is more than likely the weak link.

Your best bet if you plan on towing 9k with a 1994 model is the 460 and a manual tranmission. If you get 3.73 gears you can expect 18-20mpg empty.
These trucks in a standard or extended-cab 4x2 can be had with 70k miles for about $1000-1500

Well guys thanks for the advice. Luckily someone had bought the truck up before i had a chance to .I have done alot of truck looking and have found something a little better to suite my needs. Its a little more then the other but its a f350 Diesel automatic, 4 door and long bed its fully loaded with 129,000 for 8,900 i talked him down to. He wanted 10,900 but i got a budget. Drove the truck seems fine. Thing is very smooth. If i choose this truck I will of course take it somewhere to have it checked out because i know nothing about diesel engines. He had the same exact truck not loaded and with 10,000 more miles for same price about. i really like the diesel. \

Any thoughts

Despite manufaturer claims over the last 10 years, 1/2 tons should not tow 9k pounds. Besides that, you considered towing 9k pounds (well over the truck's ratings) on a 15 year old truck in unknown condition. Any modification to a truck will improve how well a truck will tow within its ratings, not increase them. 6k pounds is a good limit for 1/2 ton trucks if you plan on keeping the truck for a while.

As for that diesel you found, looks good. 130k miles is nothing for the 7.3L.
