So when someone stops in front of you and you rear end them and they are in the hospital and the police figure out that you didn't have a break controller for a trailer with electric brakes Lets just say the defense will tear you a new one If your trailer has electric brakes, do everyone a big safety favor and hook them up. It is not that expensive compared to the cost of getting in a severe accident. Feet matter in a panic stop and trailer brakes do a LOT to stop a trailer. Plus if your truck brakes ever failed, the trailer brakes will get you stopped safely or at least get you to a place to fix them

I just installed a Prodigy in my '05 SCrew today.
Cost about $130 and an hour's time.

Don't take this the wrong way but..... you paid too much, and it took way too long to install. I have seen them online for $90 and It took about 10 min to install. Maybe you turned it into a 5 job

I put my Prodigy in, took like you say 10 mins. I got mine for 79 bucks. It would have been a breeze to install, except I had a tap where my relay had to go, so had to move it. Can't wait to use it. This will be me towing my recentlt restored Galaxie around so all the more protection and help is greatly apppreciated.

Absolutely use a brake controller. Your truck can stop it but it will stop it much more efficiently with a brake controller. Try a panic stop and you'll see just how bad the thing stops. lol I've turned mine off before to see how it would stop a 20' car hauler and it was terrible. Even with the controller it's not all that great.

Worth the money if the trailer does have el. brakes, worthless if it doesn't have el. brakes.

Spend the $60-100 dollars and get one. It might be a good selling feature.

If your combo doesn't stop correctly, I suggest that you get a different controller or adjust the one you have. If it is a time based controller, throw it away and get a proportional digital controller. I actually stop better with my travel trailer in tow.

I have a Prodigy brake controller. When you're towing 6k though the truck doesn't exactly stop on a dime.

What do you mean by your last statement? You stop better in tow compared to what?
