2000 f150 vs 25ft boat
2000 f150 vs 25ft boat
I have a 2000 f150 4X4 ext cab 5.4 l with the 3:55 gears. towing cap should be 7700 according to the chart. This weekend my buddy and i were considering taking out his boat which is a 25 ft montery which weighs 6,100 pounds without the trailer. I'm guessing the trailer weighs about 500to 750 ish, so i'm guessing total tow weight not including fuel and food would be around 6800 ish pounds. with fuel and all that about 7000. then with the 2 of us about 350 more. so total is around 7,350lbs. now, my f150 has 98,000 miles on it. is this a bad idea to tow this much on a truck with that many miles? everything is in great shape, i've never had trouble with the engine or the transmission. You guys think i'll break something if i try it? i have experience towing but never this much weight although i have towed things longer than this so as far as my ability to do it i'm not worried, only with whether or not the truck may bleehhhhh. any input would be appreciated...
p.s. he ussually tows it with his dads 03 f150 super duty cab which has a few less miles on it (i'm guessing around 40,000). that has even lower capacity and they havn't seen any problems with it. we'll be going about 30 miles or so each way, so total 60 round trip. (i do have the superchips deal which "increases torque" though i know not capacity.)
