B4 Towing?

Do I need to grease the ball that is connected to my receiver b4 I tow. If so, what type of grease should I use and where do I get it from.

We probably all know what a 'dry rub' feels like..... ha, ha..... Same deal with a ball and coupler..... I don't grease the ball for my #2000 utility trailer, but I do for my #5000 TT....

An ungreased ball will eventually 'gall' and show wear marks, but is a mess to deal with.... My TT hitch wouldn't last 1000 miles without grease, so there you go... I don't think I've put 1000 miles on my utility trailer in the 9 years I've owned it... The ball does show a slight wear mark on the 'front' of the ball however.... I ain't worried about it....

I just use your standard 'multi purpose' grease on mine....

Yep, grease it, just be careful of it when you walk around the back of the truck with the draw bar on, but the trailer off...

You can usually tell it needs greasing because it squeaks a little when turning and it's hard to put the tongue on...

Whatever, you don't have to grease your hitch ball. I've towed upwards of #10,000 behind my truck and an 2004. Never greased a single ball in my day, and the trailer pulls, turns, and backs like the day we bought it.

I will only be towing a 290lb trailer with a 350lb ATV on it. Also if the trailer sqeaks a little (jus a lil) when I run over bumps can I but WD-40 on the springs? or what should I do?

I wouldn't grease the ball for that kind of load. I only grease my TT hitch because it's a WD type of hitch and makes a 'ton' of noise if it's not greased up! Plus, I've seen ***** and WD bars that were not greased and they wear pretty fast..

Anyway, as far as the springs go, you can try the WD40 on them... Why not?? Won't hurt anything, and it might actually work for the short term... I don't mind the squeeking on my utility trailer... It lets me know that it's still back there!

Have fun!

How about my receiver. I bought a Reese receiver from Auto Zone and it has a little play inside of the hitch. Not much just a little. Is this normal. When I say play I mean that I can move it slighlty up and down or side to side, but just slightly.
