Tent Trailer Towing

Hi,

New here. I have a 02 F150 Super Cab 4.6L V8 2WD. Can I tow a tent trailer around 1700 pounds without a tranny cooler on a temporary basis? I know I don't have a tranny cooler since I'm just adding a hitch today. I realize I will probably need a cooler, or will I since this is a pretty light tow?

Thanks!

Hi Mortimer,

I did a lot of tent camping and other towing using 4-banger toyota pickup.
I think the HP was about 85 and the torque was round 13.

Drove the truck for 14 years, putting 165,000 miles on it.
Sold it to a guy nine years ago and saw him going down the road last month.

So yes, your truck will handle it without significant additional capital outlay....
...meaning you need nothing.

You already have one installed in you radiator. If you are towing at 25% or less of capacity...it will work just fine. I think you were refering to an auxillery tranny cooler which is an easy addition if you decide you need one later.
