Towing a Waverunner
Towing a Waverunner
Hey all!
Just had a fuel economy question. I'm borrowing a waverunner and plan to tow it from baltimore to myrtle beach (8 hours). I have a 2004 Screw 2wd 5.4L, 3.55 open. I'm turning 35x12.5s, and will be pulling a single jetski trailer with a VX1100 3 seater waverunner. Am I going to get destroyed on gas mileage, or will my f150 cruize with it? I know i'll probably have to take OD off going through the Appalachians. I have no idea of the weight but it cant be much more than 1000 lbs. total. Anybody know?

If you have the stock tires/wheels, put those on for the trip. Or, get 4.10 gears.
Personal watercrafts are light (even 3-seaters) for a 1/2 ton pickup and very aerodynamic. The aerodynamics is what really affects highway mileage, not the weight so much. The which is what really hurts fuel economy. The 35's will hurt fuel economy more than the PWC.

I pull cars regularly with 3.73s and 37" tires. You might notice a slight additional lag and a very minor drop in mileage. Don't worry about it and have fun!
