2006 SC Flareside and RV Questions
2006 SC Flareside and RV Questions
Hello All,
Our interest in an RV has been renewed. We like the 5th wheel RV models over the TT's.
Our truck is a 2006 SC Flareside with the 5.4L engine, AT, 3.55 Gears, 4WD and 20" Factory Wheels. The bed is 6.5' feet long and approximately 40" between the wheel wells.
Do they make a 5th wheel hitch that will fit our bed?
Will the 20" Factory Rims cause any problems with towing an RV?
I have tried a search but did not turn up anything that fit my questions.
Thanks to All for replying.

I am not an expert on fifth wheels by any means, but I do see a problem with the flairside. The problem is not with mounting the hitch, since they mount between the wheel wells, but is with the trailers pin box. Small fifth wheels generally have an extended pin box for short bed trucks, from what I have seen, which would cause it to hit your box sides on sharp turns. Mine almost hits box sides on sharp turns, within inches. Due to the height of the new style F150 the pin box sits underneath the bed rails. You could overcome this by finding a taller hitch, different pin box, goose neck conversion, one of these options. You will also need to lift the trailer to be level. You could also take out the 2 " blocks on the rear axle. But mine squated enough so the trailer sits level, my trailer also has the axles flipped.
I do not think a flairside is going to work. I also had a hard time finding a 5th wheel that would suit my truck, due to the pin weight. Trailer should be aluminum with no slides. Very few brand new 5th wheel trailers will work with 1/2 tons. Anyways, good luck. Here is my set up. Tows OK, once your moving it is fine.

Flareside should be 48" between thew wheel wells, just like styleside. Anyway, I don't recommend 5th wheel RV's for 1/2 ton trucks. You'll probably be over GWVR with only a 5000 pounds trailer, apssengers, and camping gear.
