Brake Controller

Question: Are brake controllers universal to Ford?

Reason I ask is my dad is trading in his 05F350 and he JUST put a brake contoller on it is I was going to pull it out and use it on my 06 150 . I have the towing package and in the glove I have the adapter (i guess) . I traced the brake controller in the 350 and it just connects to a harness being his cig. lighter.

Ok went and looked it's pretty much this one , although he has a "slide on the bottom too ..

If it is the Tekonsha Prodigy it will work just fine. You may need to change the wiring harness to match it up to the F150. I don't know if the wiring is compatible between the SuperDuty and the F150 but the controller should work fine once it is correctly wired for the F150.

i have pretty much the same controller, it will work just fine on your truck, you can get the plug for about ten bucks online that will go from the controller to the grey plug under the dash

All Ford connectors are the same. I bought my Prodigy from my buddy that had a 250. It plugged right in and works great!

Ummmm....
1985-1993 F150-F350 grey 4 pin connector
1994-2004 F150-F350 grey 6 pin connector
2005-2007 F150 still uses grey 6 pin connector
2005-2008 F250-F350SD uses a new style connector

'94 to '04 was cool that they all interchanged though.

You forgot 94-04 250... it uses the grey 6 pin. This is what I used on my 04. You got one hell of a range of years with the same connector. If they are anywhere close in vintage you'll be all set. The 250 was an 02.ooops... my mistake. You covered it in the 2nd listing 94-04 150-350. Still, the controller will work. You just need a different pigtail. Cheap enough at $10.

So I now have it removed, I take the conector that came with the truck and plug it in under the dash then I have the brake controller which only has 4 wires ( currently hooked to the 4 pin adapter for the F350) so can i buy an adapter to wire to my truck to convert my 6 pin to the 4 wire brake contoller?

Go to www.rvwholesalers.com and order the pigtail for Ford below 08. It will have the ford connector on one end and the Prodigy connector on the other. Plug it into your truck and then lug it into your controller and you're done. You will not even need the adapter that came with your truck. Mine is still in the glove compartment. You might be able to find the connector at a local shop that sells brake controllers and hitches.
